Rothstein: Marcy Romeo victim impact statement awakens kindred spirit of Minnesota journalist targeted by same group

Federal lawsuit details similar experience for journalist that ran afoul of Rothstein, Rosenfeldt, Adler's gang

On July 21,  Marcy Romeo, a woman that was targeted by Broward County Sheriff’s deputies for false arrest gave a victim’s impact statement during a sentencing hearing for Lt. David Benjamin.

“I've never met you and I'm 'that bitch' you told [Jeff Poole] to arrest," Romeo told Benjamin, quoting former deputy Jeff Poole's account of what Benjamin told him to do.

Court documents show Ponzi schemer Scott Rothstein used Franklin to have Jeff Poole arrest the ex-wife of one of Rothstein's friends on trumped-up drug charges. The friend wanted to use the arrest in a child custody battle.

"Well, my name's Marcy and I'm a mother and I'm a daughter and I'm an aunt and I'm a sister, I'm a cousin — I'm a human being," Romeo said. Her voice cracked with emotion, but she remained calm.

Benjamin was sentenced to five years in prison.

Timothy Charles Holmseth, journalist/author, East Grand Forks, Minnesota, feels a close kindred spirit with Romeo although they have never met. He feels very closely connected to the words Romeo said to Franklin, and is is very proud she gallantly confronted the criminal – and reminded him she is a parent with children and a very real person.

In 2009, Holmseth became familiar with the names “Jeff Poole” and “Scott Rothstein” and ultimately – met the same fate as Romeo.

Poole, who faces sentencing today for falsely arresting Romeo, is a long time associate of William Eugene Staubs – a.k.a. ‘Cobra’ – a Broward County bail bondman and private investigator - a notorious grifter. Staubs has a long history with Poole and Holmseth has a great deal of documented evidence of his activties.

Staubs briefly made headlines in 2009 after he interjected himself into the search for a missing child named HaLeigh Cummings. However, he was soon arrested and charged with felony false imprisonment by the Putnam County Sheriff’s Office.

During journalistic interviews, Staubs talked about Poole, and also told Holmseth about a biofuel company called ABT. Staubs said the little girl’s kidnapping would lead back to Rothstein and the biofuel company, which did in fact, subsequently appear on the federal list of FBI seizures made during the RICO investigation.

After Holmseth was told about Rothstein, he received a recording of individuals discussing a $231 Million shady back-door biofuel deal that was allegedly arranged through then Florida Gov. Charlie Crist – Holmseth was threatened that he better shut up.

Holmseth received an email from an attorney named Pedro Dijols, Rothstein, Rosenfeldt, and Adler.

Then - Holmseth got what Romeo got.

Unprecedented police reports and CPS complaints began to flood in to the East Grand Forks Police Department against Holmseth.

Police incident reports show the bogus reports were coming from Broward County, Florida. Holmseth posseses emails that show an individual calling the police was represented by Rothstein, Rosenfeldt, and Adler.

In 2011, Staubs had a falling out with the Rothstein gang, and authored a four page Affidavit, which is now an exhibit in support of a ‘Deprivation of Rights - Color of Law’ lawsuit filed in United States District Court against the Polk County Sheriff, East Grand Forks Chief of Police, and several others by Holmseth.

In the sworn affidavit, Staubs states he was asked to contact Holmseth’s child’s mother in North Dakota. He describes the subsequent actions of a group, under the corporate veil of Rothstein, Rosenfeldt, and Adler, that planned to make false police reports against Holmseth and label him a “pedophile” and “mentally unstable” to discredit him.

Staubs described a meeting where a high powered rifle was taken out by a shareholder of ABT. “He told me he is going to kill Timothy Holmseth or have somebody do it for him,” Staubs said.

Holmseth says police incident reports and court records will demonstrate that Rothstein associates in Broward County, Florida, worked in close tandem with select corrupt officials in Minnesota to falsely imprison him for their mutually beneficial reasons as they attempted to shut down his publication.

EGF City Attorney Ronald Galstad stayed in close communication with Broward County, Florida for several years as he attempted to stop Holmseth from exposing a criminal operation underway in Polk County, Minnesota.

In 2012 the EGFPD, Galstad, and the Polk County Sheriff's Office partnered to seize, illegally search, and disable Holmseth's hard-drive.

In April of 2009, a loan fraud scheme called “Boardwalk Enterprises” was exposed and revealed why Holmseth had become a target in both Minnesota and Florida.
